Not much needs to be said about this. It is a Robyn track. She is one of the most brilliant pop artists of the last 5 years. She is currently two thirds the way through the greatest pop album trilogy ever. And she is releasing a studio version of one of the best acoustic tracks in recent times as her next single.
It is of course (for those who are familiar with Robyn) Indestructible. The acoustic version appeared on Body Talk Pt. 2 and was nothing short of brilliant. A sweet, emotional, but determined song sung over a cleverly arranged string quartet reminescent of Vivaldi or Mozart.
So, how does one approach the challenge of turning a brilliant acoustic song, into a full-blown, radio-friendly studio track?
- Throw down a stomping beat and a pulsating bassline.
- Add lots of lushious vocal harmonies.
- Cleverly turn a string quartet solo into a wiggly synth lead without making it sound weird.
- Hire a raft of excellent remixers, including Max Sanna and Steve Pitron, who always manage to thrown down a beaty, dancable interpretation when they're called to do so.
